After a whirlwind month of birthday celebrations and battling seasonal allergies that turned into a sinus and upper respiratory infection, I’m back and I have lots to share!
First, thanks for all the birthday wishes! Avon and I capped our birthday celebrations with a joint party at my place, while Bean had his first sleepover at a friend’s house. I had been looking forward to hosting a party ever since I moved into my apartment, but sadly, I was too sick to actually enjoy it or anything really over the last few weeks, to be honest. It didn’t help that it had been cold and rainy outside for days on end either. So when we finally got a break in the weather and I finally beat my cold, I rushed the family out to Freedom Park to take advantage.
With the weather forecast predicting steadily rising temperatures and my seasonal allergies at bay, I’m looking forward to spending more time outside, with and without the family. Here’s what else I’m looking forward to this month:
Charlotte Bloggers Meetup // I take blogging very seriously – sporadic posting and weird shyness around sharing posts with people who actually know me aside – and for the last few months, I’ve been working hard toward my goal of blogging full-time. I’m always looking for opportunities to learn more about the industry and to connect with other creatives, so when the blogger behind the drool-worthy @cltdesserts account reached out to me on Instagram with an invitation to meet other Charlotte bloggers, I happily accepted. We’re meeting at the People’s Market at Dilworth on Saturday, May 12 at 11 AM. The invitation is open to all bloggers in Charlotte and the surrounding areas, but if you’re not a blogger and happen to be in the area, stop by and say hello!
Our First Anniversary // Last May, after months and months of phone calls, text messages, direct messages and everything in between, I flew to Charlotte to meet Avon in person for the first time. We turned our long-distance friendship to into a long-distance relationship that weekend and well, you know the rest.
It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already. Sometimes, it feels as though we’ve only just met and at other times, it feels like we’ve always known each other. I still feel as giddy around him as I did on our first date. We haven’t confirmed our plans to celebrate yet, but we’ve talked about re-creating our first date on the Boardwalk in the University area. We’ll have to modify the part where we sat by the lake and talked for hours underneath the moon and stars though, because Bean ain’t having it.
Spring Bucket List // Going to the Charlotte Spring Fair was at the top of my list of things to do in Charlotte this spring, but it came and went before I could find an allergy medicine strong enough for me to withstand an entire day outside and enjoy it. Now that it’s safe for me to be outside again, I want to get back to exploring Charlotte with my camera in tow. So far, I’ve crossed learning how to use my DSLR camera, visiting Freedom Park and having a family photo shoot off of my list. I’m hoping to check the other items off before they become my summer bucket list!
Mother’s Day // Mother’s Day has become one of my favorite holidays since I became a mother myself. I usually go to church and spend the day relaxing with my family, but this year, Avon is taking the reins. I’ve been hinting at gifts I would like since the day after my birthday (you know, in between dying a slow pollinated death), but what I really want is to have my apartment cleaned from top to bottom by anyone other than me and a few hours by myself to enjoy it. I love my guys so much and I just know I would love them even more after a few hours away. I will happily peel myself off of the couch to give them extra hugs and kisses when they come back, hopefully with dinner. And dessert.
Memorial Day Weekend // I’ve always considered Memorial Day Weekend to be the unofficial beginning of summer and treated it accordingly. In the past, Bean and I have spent the holiday weekend road tripping, but since he has plans to spend the weekend with his paternal grandparents in Atlanta this year, I’m planning to continue our tradition with Avon. We’re thinking of going to Asheville, NC, where we can explore the Great Smoky Mountains and check another outdoor adventure off of our list.
