At the beginning of the summer, I set an intention to take better care of myself. That included seeing a therapist for a mental health checkup. By our third session, my therapist concluded that I haven’t been taking very good care of myself. When her questions about my self-care habits finally got me to admit that lying on my couch with a sheet mask on my face usually left me feeling more anxious than relaxed, we both realized that I had a lot to learn about self-care.
Since then, I’ve learned that self-care is more than a luxurious skin care routine and that coloring can be therapeutic. I’m looking forward to exploring self-care and experiencing the benefits of doing self-care right. Here’s what else I’m looking forward to in August:
Bean’s First Day of Kindergarten // Bean returns from his summer vacation in Brooklyn at the end of the month, just in time for the first day of school. Even though he has been in a formal school setting for at least two years, this year is extra special because he’s entering kindergarten! I’m confident that he’ll enjoy his new school and the new challenges a kindergarten will bring. I’m not as confident that I’ll be able to contain my emotions!
Ready, Set, TV // After months of watching YouTube more than I’ve watched live television, I’ve decided to try my hand creating video content. On my Ready, Set, Charlotte YouTube channel, which launches this Sunday, I’m bringing the blog to life! You’ll get to know me and my family a lot better as we explore Charlotte and share our favorite things. Subscribe and let me know what you think!
Weight Watchers // As part of my intention to take better care of myself, I rejoined Weight Watchers. I first joined the program in 2012 and released almost 30 pounds. Weight Watchers recently made some changes to their program that I’ll admit give me pause (how can eggs be zero SmartPoints?!). But, hey. I’m going with it.
