Avon and I have been happily cohabitating for the past few months, but it didn’t take long for us to realize that there’s a big difference between living together and spending quality time together. While Bean was away visiting family over the summer, Avon and I spent plenty of time together at home, establishing new routines, binge watching our favorite shows and basking in our uninterrupted alone time. But now that Bean is back home and the school year is in full swing, our alone time mostly consists of stolen moments and struggling to stay awake in front of the TV. Our relationship is of utmost importance to us and we take nurturing it very seriously. So when Avon asked me out on a date this weekend (swoon), I responded immediately with a heart eye emoji, an enthusiastic yes and a challenge to go on at least two dates per month. Here are a few fall inspired ideas on our list:
Enjoy a glass (or a few) of locally brewed, fall flavored beer at one of Charlotte’s 24 craft breweries
If beer isn’t your thing, share a flight with with six samples of homemade hard cider at Windy Hill Orchard and Cidery. Don’t forget to grab some apple cinnamon donuts (no, you don’t have to share)!
Get scared at Scarowinds
After dark, Carowinds, the enormous amusement park between the Carolinas, transforms into SCarowinds, an immersive horror experience complete with haunted houses, roaming characters and jumpscares. I’m not a huge fan of thrill rides, but I’ll never turn down the thrill of feeling Avon’s arms around me.
Have a pumpkin carving contest
Avon is so excited about taking Bean to the pumpkin patch and has been brainstorming ideas for pumpkin carving. I have a fun idea of my own: a pumpkin carving contest! The winner gets as many kisses as they want.
Cook a seasonal dish together at home
My taste buds have been craving a hearty soup. I think we would both enjoy making and eating this Slow-Cooker Bacon Corn Chowder. Maybe we could also find fresh, seasonal ingredients, seasonal flowers for our dining table and fall scented candles at the Famers Market?
Go on a hike at Crowders Mountain State Park
We’ve hiked at Crowders Mountain State Park before and really enjoyed it. I imagine we would enjoy the scenic views of beautiful fall foliage much more between kisses.
Taste the fall menu at a local restaurant
Dining out is our go-to on date night (as seen here and here). We could easily (and literally) spice things up with some new seasonal flavors. Amélie’s French Bakery and Cafe boasts an impressive fall menu with over 30 seasonal dishes, desserts and drinks that we can enjoy together.
Spend a day (or a long weekend) leaf peeping in Asheville
With only two hours between Charlotte and Asheville, we can spend the morning ogling the city’s beautiful display of fall foliage and the afternoon eating our way through the city’s incredible food and drink scene.
Some other, simpler ideas I have are watching Halloween movies, volunteering and taking a long walk through our neighborhood while we search for fall and Halloween decorations. Let me know if you have any other ideas or have been on a memorable fall inspired date below. Have a great weekend!
