Candles burning low
Lots of mistletoe
Lots of snow and ice
Everywhere we go
Choir singing carols
Right outside my door
All these things and more
That’s what Christmas means to me my love
Oh, yeah yeah
I’ve been singing Stevie Wonder’s “That’s What Christmas Means to Me” since…well, the day after Thanksgiving is as far back as I’ll admit to singing Christmas songs. I won’t lie and say that I secretly listen to Christmas music all year long, but I won’t deny it either!
One of my favorite things about Christmastime is the music. Many of my happiest childhood memories of Christmas are set to songs from the records (yes, records!) my parents played on the old record player that collected dust in our living room until the last month of the year.
Here’s a list of some of my favorite Christmas songs, in no particular order:
White Christmas – The Drifters
Gee Whiz, It’s Christmas – Carla Thomas
Merry Christmas, Baby – Otis Redding
Someday at Christmas – Stevie Wonder
Christmas Tonight – Dave Barnes ft. Hilary Scott
This Christmas – Donny Hathaway
Underneath the Tree – Kelly Clarkson
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
Home for the Holidays – Perry Como
Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy – Bing Crosby ft. David Bowie
Last Christmas – Wham!
